Satisfaction of your own work, symbolized by a drink.

I PRESENT TO YOU: INTERVALE

A combination of interval and ale

intervale, boom. In the interest of full disclosure I ran the half marathon in 2000, but all finishers received this.

I am not a huge connoisseur of beer. I mean, I like beer, a lot. But I am not knowledgeable in the brewing process, or the different kinds of hops, and fermenting temperatures, etc. A lot of that interests me in a purely cosmopolitan, I like knowing stuff kind of way.

But a few weeks ago I decided to try to brew my own beer. Now it must be said, that most of the great running events in our world today involve the consumption of beer before, during, or after the race OR they are a result of beer being consumed and an idea being hatched (how many of us can relate to that?). Beer is weirdly inherent to the culture of running. Finishing many a marathon, you are often handed a beer before water. Who knows why, but those are some of the best sips of any beverage, period.

I decided to do this just to see what it would be like. After all was said and done it was pain. I could have very easily gone and bought a six pack. But this is like our garden. They may be a pain to grow, but they are our vegetables. This may have been a pain to brew, but it is my beer. It is a kolsch style ale, which is one of my favorites  I will now try to describe my beer using strictly running terms, you know, like those weird descriptions that come on bottles or in menus at brew pubs.  Though I am not that clever, so. . . .

Intervale. Made in the style of German Kolsch beers.  It is brewed with a unique combination of workouts in mind including tempos, race sims, and core work.  The flavor comes from the use of ingredients that range from mondo tracks to BioMoGo midsole to country road gravel. Mmmmm.  With hints of satisfaction from a hard run, your last sip will be as tasty as the first as the aftertaste reminds you of a PR.  Enjoy!

Put me down for a growler or two! Just stumbled upon your blog, love it, keep on keepin on. BTW, we ran Sandhills 09 together, until you dropped the sandbags and left me in Brownlee. Saying that allows me to believe that i didn’t epically collapse…which i did. See u at a race or two this spring!
