Trottin’ Turkeys

Getting After It

Saw a stat the other day that said Thanksgiving morning is the most popular day of the year for fun runs, followed closely by July 4th and St Patrick’s Day.  Regardless,  it had dawned on me recently that I had never in all my years of running partaken in one of these events.  How could I call myself a runner?

Signed up for the Cooper YMCA Turkey Trot in Lincoln.  Fundraiser for the KIDS STRONG campaign, a noble cause that gets young people active, something I obviously support.  It follows the perimeter of Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.  Kind of bugged me a little bit, but when I think about it I personally would not mind a 5k going by my grave site.

Cold morning.  15 degrees, breezy, WC around two degrees.  Not the coldest I have ever run, that is for another post.  My good friend Ryan Salem and I did some warming up together.  The course was hilly and had lots of turns. Sparing the details, ran very even splits of 5:14, 5:16, 5:18 and then whatever for the last .1 for a 16:12.  Very happy with the race, road PR for me.  So HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone out there.  I am thankful for my family, my friends, and the ability to do what I do. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
