THE INCLINE
9/10/10 I was hoping to start this section of the site off with something from the Lincoln area. But I want to take my time on those entries and do them justice. So, we’ll start with a route from my second home in Colorado, THE INCLINE. Now honest to goodness it is impossible to describe this thing. But here are the relevant stats. The direct route is about 1 mile long. In that one mile the trail rises about 2,000′ , with a max grade of 68% at an altitude of about 6800′(the Guinness Book of World Records has the steepest street at about 35%, Mt Washington race ranges from 11% to 22%). For those that don’t know this trail is like taking a set of stairs, marking them with railroad ties, taking out the middle step, and putting them at altitude There was one point in the experience where I looked behind and down and got a bit freaking dizzy. It was awesome. Did it with three of my buddies; Jason Alexander, Matt Neukirch, and Devin Townsend. Took me 30:09, record is Matt Carpenter in 19 min and change.
