Hi to all SimpleSole folks out there. This is my first post and Wonz might stick this into its own thread rather than a reply to the Training page. But here we go…
Roots
Since my last post on SimpleSole I have been thinking a lot about the direction of this site that I started a year ago. I modeled it after a couple of sites my friends currently operate (ndornz.com and ClimbingHouse). I was inspired to share my passion for running, photography, and the outdoors in general. While SimpleSole has bounced from interviews, to training tips, to my own thoughts the common thread has remained the same: trying to give people a different perspective on the oft-misunderstood area of distance running. I am not the greatest writer, or photographer, or runner in the world. But my love for the sport will carry me through.
Which is one of the reasons why I am calling this post “ROOTS”. As runners, or maybe even human beings, we have a habit of going back to what we know and are comfortable with. While I look to explore with this site, my own running, or even my life I stil go back to what I know. So I will try to be more consistent and keep to the spirit. But who knows where the trail will take me. Happy running. Continue reading

Minimalism Done Right
All right, I meant to talk about this last week when these shoes were released. But just didn’t get around to an update. There has been an explosion of minimalist based shoes in the last three years. Inspired by the wild success of “barefootin'” or the Vibram Five Fingers, most companies have come up with a style of shoe that gets rid of all the fluff so to speak. I will do another post on the topic of barefoot running later on, this is for review purposes today. I think a better way of putting it would be that most companies RUSHED to get something out and capitalize on the money to be made. No doubt, most of these are decent pieces of footwear. But to be honest most brands have had minimalist shoes out for years. They are called racing flats. Minimalist shoes by definition have a limited drop from heel to toe, in other words they are fairly flat-footed shoes. Brooks (disclosure: I run for a team sponsored by Brooks and also belong to their Inspire Daily program) waited until this fall to release their line called the Pure Series
